Precautions for fixing plaster bandage

Nov 16, 2021

In the process of dressing with plaster bandage, if it is necessary to keep the affected limb in a special position, let others hold the limb with their palms, and do not press the plaster with their fingers, otherwise it is easy to cause ulcer due to local compression.

It takes a period of time for the plaster of Paris to harden and form. During this period, the position and state of the limbs at the time of fixation should always be maintained to prevent the plaster from breaking.

After bandaging, be sure to observe the skin state of the distal end of the affected limb, mainly to see whether the color will be purple, whether the skin temperature will drop, whether the limb will be numb, etc. If you have the above symptoms, it means that the plaster is fixed too tightly and has oppressed the blood circulation. You must cut the plaster bandage immediately.
