6. Time: there is no certain standard for the length of time that the tourniquet can be used safely. It is usually determined by the patient's age, physiological status and blood vessel supply of limbs. For normal healthy adults under the age of 50, the tourniquet used in the arm should be less than one hour and that in the thigh should be less than one and a half hours.
